Conceptual discussions on inequality and its manifestations in contemporary reality

Abstract

The purpose of the article is to analyze different theoretical and analytical perspectives on the issue of inequality in academic debate, in proposals of multilateral agencies, research institutes and government discourse. It reviews the principal consequences of inequality in urban regions, particularly in countries on the periphery of capitalism and highlights the Brazilian reality. The article analyzes measures taken by governments between the years 1990-2000 and the main policies implemented in Brazil to combat inequality.
