Possible adventures in the making of social control: reflexions from an experience in the field of youth

Abstract

This article aims at examining an experience of social control in the field of youth policy in the city of Niterói, Brazil. Data for this article were collected from both written (reports, legislation, projects, etc.) and oral (interviews with members of local government and civil society associations) sources from which the conclusions presented in this article were drawn. The article indicates the obstacles faced by those involved in such experience (lack of formal training, absence of infrastructure, low level of participation etc.), highlighting both the local and the broader national problems that underlie them. Considering such experience an important one, it also points out that it should be considered more as a starting point than an ending point.
