Reflections on public policy in fighting obesity in Brazil

Obesity appears as a serious social problem in the world. Discuss the issue is critical to address this social issue. Obesity is a disease with severe consequences on public health, and impacts and trigger repercussions in the lives of individuals. This article contains reflections to support the discussion of the need for public policies regarding the issue of weight. It presents actions taken in relation to similar diseases such as alcoholism and smoking and suggests the necessity of fighting the malnutrition beyond the issue of hunger, but in need of prevention and confrontation of social reality. This is a test of theoretical review, which contributes to the discussion of Thesis in Social Work. The main categories are: obesity, public policy, social rights and citizenship. We conclude that the concept of citizenship combined with the concept of consumption needs to be questioned, as the concept of citizenship coupled with public policies. There is a need today, mechanisms to guide the popular leadership to break with the cultural welfare, building the right culture.Downloads
