Sustainability and income: possible combination?

Abstract

This text is about the contraposition between sustainable development and the contradictions generated from the capital-work, technological advance, preservation of the environment, poverty and social inequality relationship, resultant from the way of producing and reproducing of material, social and spiritual life in the contemporaneous capitalist societies. We discuss how initiatives on sustainable technologies, sustainable development and solidary economy (income and work generation popular initiatives) can confront, or not, the current economic growing model. As an example, the text reflects about the Doll’s Atelier experience, an income and work generation initiative with recycle materials of Refazendo Vínculos (Rebuilding Bonds), university extension project of the Faculty of Social Work of the Pontifícea Universidade Católica de São Paulo, Brazil, that work with teenagers at social and personal risk situation due to involvement in violence, transgression and drug cycle, developed by.
