Abstract

This article describes and discusses two experiences of socialenvironmental models selected from a variety of perspectives that exist in different Brazilian regions. The first one is located in the mid-Western region of the country, in the county of Pirenópolis, of Goiás State. The second is located in the South-Eastern region, in the county of Rio das Ostras, of Rio de Janeiro State. The goal of this work is to contribute in two different lines: the first is to illustrate the importance of the local dimension for the day-to-day environmental practices, as well as for the study of social-environmental sustainability. The second relates to the necessity of giving visibility to a set of existing data, obtained through local research, which remains unpublished, either in those communities, or at the regional and national levels.
